Russian Bride Practices

Every society has a wealth of wedding traditions and Russia is no exception. While many contemporary Russian people opt for a more “westernized” service that simply requires them to sign their names in a register office ( or as we call it Zags), there are still those who want to go the whole pig and have the standard Orthodox event with all of its related fun

As an example, a conventional Russian couple will greet their families with bread and salt as they enter the home. This is a means of wishing the new couple a longer living together. After this, the brides will include a special supper of korovai, a circular wedding wheat filled with different images such as seagulls, bouquets, sun and stars, all wishing the couple health, prosperity and happiness.

During the reception, friends are encouraged to fall a bit of cash on the floor kiss russian beauty around the honeymooners, known as “dvoryanka”. This traditional custom embodies a couple’s desire for great success in life.

Another custom that is frequently observed is that the wife throws her flowers at the customers instead. Anyone caught it is thought to be the second couple to marry, so they must be very cautious not to trample to painful. A piece of the plate must be positioned underneath their pillow for those who do n’t catch the bouquet.

The “ransom” is a traditional part of a Russian wedding. In essence, the groom’s pals abduct the bride and keep her until he finishes a string of commitments that will unfortunately humiliate him. To free the girl, the groom had make either actual or symbolic payment.
